Botox, Fillers and Fat Transfer

Botox, Fillers and Fat Transfer

With age the skin elasticity and collagen fibres decrease. Environmental influences, such as sun and smoking accelerate this process. Wrinkles, lines and small furrows are formed by loss of tension and elasticity. These especially affect the skin around the eyes ('crows feet') and at the sides of the mouth ('nasolabial folds'). Wrinkles on the forehead or between the eyes are usually due to distinctive facial expression in these parts. There are different approaches to the treatment depending on the shaping and location of the wrinkles

Facial expression wrinkles: Botulinumtoxin (known as 'BOTOX', relaxation of the muscular system connected with facial expression)

Wrinkles through loss of elasticity: Injections with dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid (HA) and own body fat (so called 'lipofilling' or fat transfer) under the wrinkles.

Loss of volume: Facial ageing is often accompanied by loss of volume in the face. The solution to this is either volume, by injecting dermal fillers, or transfer of fat, so called 'lipofilling'. Particularly useful for thin faces, the fat transfer procedure uses a different approach to restoring a youthful appearance by injecting the patients’ own fat into the face.

This techniques achieve a clearly visible rejuvenation. The procedures can either be done as a single procedure or combined with surgical operations.

Botox in Detail

Botulinum toxin, 'BOTOX'

Botulinum toxin A, gained from bacteria reduces muscle activity, relaxes the muscle and thus smoothes out the wrinkle on top of the muscle. It is suitable, especially for wrinkles resulting from facial expression on the forehead (worry lines), wrinkles between the eyes (anger lines) and at the sides of the eyes (Crows feet). The injection of the substance takes place without pain using very thin cannulae. Anaesthesia is therefore not necessary. The effect occurs within a latency of 5-10 days and lasts for 6-12 months, depending on the distinction of the facial expression. The muscle then regenerates slowly. The therapy can be repeated as often as desired and can also be combined with other techniques. nbsp]

Duration of treatment: 15 minutes

Type of anaesthesia:
none

Follow up treatment:
cooling of area, no use of make-up for 2 hours

Risks:
minor haematoma, swelling at site of injection, minor headaches, temporary weakness of eyelid

Final result:
after 5 - 10 days

Duration of effect:
6 - 12 months

Recovery period: none

Fillers in Detail

Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid is an important component of the skin that decreases with ongoing age. The purely synthetically produced substance is available in different intensities and is suitable for very fine as well as very deep furrows. As facial ageing is often accompanied by loss of volume in the face injections of dermal fillers are a possibility to restoring a youthful appearance.

Duration of treatment: 15 - 30 minutes

Type of anaesthesia: none, nerve block or ointment containing local anaesthetic

Follow up treatment: cooling of area, no use of make-up for 12 hours

Risks: minor haematoma, reddening, swelling at site of injection

Final result: after swelling has gone down, approximately 2 hours

Duration of effect: 3 - 9 months

Recovery period: after approximately 1 - 3 hours

Fat Transfer in Detail

Fat Transfer, Lipofilling

Facial ageing is often accompanied by loss of volume in the face. The solution to this is either volume, by injecting dermal fillers, or transfer of fat, so called 'lipofilling'. Particularly useful for thin faces, the fat transfer procedure uses a different approach to restoring a youthful appearance by injecting the patients’ own fat into the face.

It is especially suited for lip enlargement and the removal of contour defects. The body fat is taken beforehand from the abdomen, the inner side of the upper thigh or upper arm and injected after special preparation. Approximately two or three times the actual amount needed has to be injected because a major part of the fat is broken down by the body organism. This technique achieve a clearly visible rejuvenation. The procedures can either be done as a single procedure or combined with surgical operations.

Once healed lipofilling with own body fat is lasting.

Duration of treatment: 30- 90 minutes

Type of anaesthesia: local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia

Follow up treatment: cooling of area, no use of make-up for 24 hours

Risks: haematoma, reddening, swelling and pain at site of injection

Final result: approximately 6 weeks

Duration of effect: lasting, occasionally repeated lipofilling necessary

Recovery period: approximately 1 - 2 weeks
